I am looking forward to meeting you all
Dear Prospective Students and Families,
Welcome to The American School and thank you for visiting our website. We are a college-preparatory school educating students from pre-nursery through grade 12. The American School has been fully accredited by the Western Association of Schools and Colleges (WASC) since 2015, with our current term of accreditation valid through June 2028.
As you look through the website, it is our hope that the information contained within these pages will inspire you to come to our campus for a visit. We would be more than happy to provide you with insight into our curriculum, give you a tour of our purpose-built campus and the excellent facilities, and to have a conversation to better understand the educational goals that you and your children share.
The American School first opened its doors in 2010. The growth of the student body necessitated the move to our new, larger campus in 2020. The campus spans some 18,000 square meters and the building houses over 100 classrooms capable of accommodating around 1500 students. With nine science laboratories, two libraries, three computer labs, a 400-seat auditorium, and a MasterChef kitchen, TAS boasts state-of-the-art facilities. Sports facilities comprise two gymnasiums, one for Middle & High School and one for Elementary School. We have a large outdoor soccer pitch for secondary students as well as a smaller one for younger pupils. In addition to our 25-meter swimming pool, there is a smaller pool where younger students can develop basic swimming skills, water safety and water confidence. A golf driving range, putting green, and a tennis court round out our athletic facilities.
With regard to the curriculum, The American School follows Common Core State Standards for English Language Arts and Math, NextGen Standards for Science, and AERO Standards for Social Studies. For creative and performing arts, we follow the National Core Arts Standards. Critical thinking, collaboration, creativity, and communication are major tenets of all academic courses at The American School in addition to our Expected Schoolwide Learning Results (ESLRs) in the areas of academics, altruism, aesthetics, and athletics, which permeate the curriculum. Furthermore, we offer a dynamic Advanced Placement (AP) program with College-Board approved AP courses in the following subjects: Calculus, Statistics, English Language, Psychology, Modern World History, Biology, Chemistry, Physics, Spanish, and Studio Art. AP courses give students who are successful the opportunity to earn university credit while still in high school.
TAS is a school that is deeply rooted in tradition, yet we are always looking to the horizon as we prepare for the future. As a learning community, we are all committed to creating and maintaining an environment that is conducive to student learning, and one that empowers our students, our staff, our parents, and our community. It is only through a strong, shared commitment between parents, students, teachers, support staff, and administrators that our students can flourish and receive the quality education necessary for future success. Together, we will create an environment that allows our students to be nurtured, to grow, and to reach high levels of academic success. Together, we will foster a culture that celebrates the hard work of our staff members and our students while emphasizing the importance of self-care and mindfulness. Together, we are Mustangs!
Looking forward to seeing you on campus soon,
Garth O’Donnell
