Dear Parents of TAS,

We are grateful to all the parents who have been supporting  TAS school over the years.

We are delighted that all members of the TAS community, including TAS families, students, teachers, and the school staffs have remained safe and healthy during the COVID-19 pandemic.

On 11/5, we received feedback from a number of TAS parents, asking for clarification regarding tuition for the 2020-2021 school year, in addition to the Covid-19 e-learning period. To ensure the safety of parents, students and all TAS staff, we have followed government directives on restricting crowds. Therefore, we hope all parents will cooperate and support us so that we can ensure the highest safety for the entire TAS family as TAS always puts our attention and care for students first.

As you know, we are going through a difficult period with the COVID-19 pandemic. This unexpected disaster has disrupted all social life and has led to many unpredictable situations.

TAS is no exception and has also had to face many difficulties. However, over the past few months, our entire leadership team, teachers, and staff have been working tirelessly to find ways to overcome the crisis and support our students.

Firstly, we have had to follow the government’s administrative orders that all students are not allowed to attend school on campus. The teachers were working harder than ever to continue to help students to study online/E-learning at home and to develop their skills and knowledge. Most of the students have responded well to the E-Learning experience and have had positive results when studying online with their teachers.

Secondly, although students weren’t on campus, TAS still needed to ensure that our facilities and teaching equipment are maintained in the best condition possible. The school had the maintenance teams working to maintain equipment, ensuring that students and teachers can use it at any time if and when they return to school. In addition, TAS is following the recommendations from the HCMC Department of Health, in which the school must conduct daily disinfecting and cleaning. TAS accepts to pay for all these additional costs to create the safest learning environment possible for our students.

Thirdly, due to the pandemic’s unpredictability, TAS needed to be in a state of preparedness to follow weekly and daily administrative orders from the Government. Unlike other establishments, business owners can stop labor contracts with employees and then recruit new employees. The American School was unable to cut or stop labor contracts with foreign teachers for many reasons. (1) It is impossible to immediately recruit a qualified substitute teacher to participate in teaching as soon as the school reopens, (2) The process of gaining work permits can be difficult and requires a lot of paperwork for a licensed foreign teacher in Vietnam. It is time consuming, sometimes over 2 months for the process from recruitment of the teacher to the completion of their work permit. TAS has paid full salaries and benefits to maintain an international standard of teaching staff over the school year to ensure that your child’s learning will continue online and as soon as the school opened.

Fourthly, In the education sector, due to the pandemic, we cannot decide on our own when to return to the school premises as we must follow the government mandates. Even without students on campus, we still needed to pay the rent regularly so that when students did return, they would enjoy the same facilities at school as they had before the pandemic.

Despite the difficulties of the pandemic, TAS has sent out official clarification emails a total of 3 times (March 15, April 24 and May 11, 2020) to all parents about tuition support policies. To help parents better understand the policies and orientations for the new school year, TAS once again would like to reiterate:

1. For meals, buses, and field trip fees of the months that students did not go to school: the school will refund 100% to parents. These fees will be deducted when parents pay the fee for the next school year or will reimburse students who will not study at TAS next school year.

2. Tuition fees of the 2020-2021 school year: TAS will not increase the tuition fees.

TAS only collects the same fees as 2019-2020.

In addition, we also are offering a promotion program for early payments, the payment deadline will be extended from May 30, 2020 to June 15, 2020 for each grade level as below:

+ ECC (Early Childhood): discount 15%
+ Kindergarten: discount 10%
+ ES (Grade 1 to Grade 5): discount 5%
+ MSHS (Grade 6 to Grade 12): discount 3%

3. Tuition fee payment progress of 2020-2021: before August 1st

The progress of tuition payment and the early payment promotion program mentioned above have been carefully considered by the school’s Leadership Team. Keeping in mind, that the school needs to proactively plan and prepare for the new school year in August 2020. We hope parents can understand and can continue to support the school to best prepare for your children’s education. It is our hope that parents will find these supportive measures helpful in overcoming some of the difficulties caused by the COVID-19 pandemic.

Aside from this, we have received a number of incorrect information about the TAS tuition policy.  We would like to use this chance to restate: TAS does NOT charge any extra fees for E-learning.

We also understand that not only the school but also the parents have faced many difficulties during this time. In addition to the financial difficulties, parents also have faced many challenges when their children could not go to school because of the pandemic. Parents had to arrange the time to take care of their children and to support their learning at home. TAS would like to express our sincere appreciation for all the efforts parents have put forth during these difficult times to support their child’s education.

Once again, we hope you and your family to remain healthy and safe. We would also like to thank you so much for your continued support.

Best regards,
